The White House has released a fact sheet confirming that the P5+1 “has been engaged in serious and substantive negotiations with Iran with the goal for reaching a verifiable diplomatic resolution that would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.”

Halting the Progress of Iran’s Program and Rolling Back Key Elements:

  • Iran has committed to halt enrichment above 5%
  • Iran has committed to neutralize its stockpile of near-20% uranium
  • Iran has committed to halt progress on its enrichment capacity
  • Iran has committed to halt progress on the growth of its 3.5% stockpile
  • Iran has committed to no further advances of its activities at Arak and to halt progress on its plutonium track
  • Unprecedented transparency and intrusive monitoring of Iran’s nuclear program

The Plan includes a verification mechanism in which assigned the IAEA will be allowed to implement their ongoing inspection role in Iran. A Joint Commission has been formed by the P5+1 and Iran whill will work with the IAEA in implementing the phases of the deal and address issues that may arise. The Joint Commission will also work with the IAEA to facilitate resolution of past and present concerns with respect to Iran’s nuclear program, including the possible military dimension of Iran’s nuclear program and Iran’s activities at Parchin.

The P5+1 has promised “limited, temporary, targeted, and reversible relief while maintaining the vast bulk of our sanctions, including the oil, finance, and banking sanctions architecture” in return for Iran’s completion of it’s commitments.” The relief will be revoked If Iran fails to meet its commitments.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu denounced the peace deal saying “What was achieved last night in Geneva is not a historic agreement, but a historic mistake,” continuing “today the world has become a much more dangerous place because the most dangerous regime in the world has taken a significant step toward attaining the most dangerous weapon in the world.” Netanyahu promised that “Israel will not allow Iran to develop a military nuclear capability.”

However U.S Secretary of State John Kerry asserted that “This first step, I want to emphasis, actually rolls back the program from where it is today, enlarges the breakout time, which would not have occurred unless this agreement existed. It will make our partners in the region safer. It will make our ally Israel safer.”
